Wistron: "As A Manufacturing
Partner For Leading Brands, Including A Major
Video Game Console, We Have Zero Tolerance For
Any Downtime In Our Production System."
TAIPEI, TAIWAN and MELVILLE, N.Y., October
24, 2002FalconStor Software, Inc.
(Nasdaq: FALC), a leading provider of network
storage infrastructure software, today announced
that Wistron Corp., formerly Acer Inc.'s Design,
Manufacturing, and Services (DMS) department,
has implemented IPStor at its South China factory
located in the city of Zhongshan, to consolidate
data in their production flow control system,
and to maintain high availability of critical
data to reduce production downtime.
Wistrons Zhongshan facility focuses on
the production of mainboards, graphic cards,
desktop computers, servers, set-top boxes, DVD
players and CD-ROM players for international
technology companies. They are also providing
manufacturing services for a future-generation
video game console from parts to final packaged
product, including parts procurement, assembly
and integration, testing, and final box build
(see biz.yahoo.com/prnews/020902/sfm001_1.html).
Wistrons newly installed production flow
control system monitors the progress of each
component at each stage of the manufacturing
process, increasing ordering, tracking and overall
manufacturing efficiency. System downtime was
not acceptable for any length of time. Wistron
needed a data consolidation solution that worked
its existing hardware and software infrastructure,
and provided 24 x 7 data availability for its
Oracle-based production system. Already working
with Wistron, AnexTEK Global Inc., a storage
networking solutions provider and FalconStor
OEM partner, proposed its IPStor-powered IPSNS
High Availability SAN storage solution to solve
Wistrons data protection concerns.
"The data held on our production system
servers is essential to the daily operation
and business continuity of the Zhongshan factory.
As a manufacturing partner for leading brands,
including a major video game console, we have
zero tolerance for any downtime in our production
system," said Jerry C. Huang, Wistrons
Global MIS Department Technology Director. "By
providing increased server performance, existing
system interoperability and increased data availability,
FalconStor technology met our objectives."
"High data availability is becoming a
requirement for manufacturing organizations
like Wistron to sustain business operations
and run mission-critical applications continuously,"
said Alex Jiang, FalconStor vice president of
Sales and Marketing for Asia Pacific. "In
today's data intense environment, FalconStor
and AnexTEK are providing Wistron a comprehensive
solution to leverage enterprise storage services
such as mirroring and active-active failover
to maximize data availability."
Previous to AnexTEKs IPSNS High Availability
SAN storage solution powered by IPStor, the
downtime when failure of a server occurred until
shifting it to another backup server, lasted
30 minutes, greatly impacting the productivity
of the production line. Now, the recovery time
of the system is in minutes, increasing system
uptime significantly.
