ADIC CERTIFIES LSI LOGIC FIBRE CHANNEL STORAGE ADAPTER

Fusion-MPT™ based LSI Logic LSI44929O certified with ADIC Scalar tape libraries for enterprise-class SAN backup

MILPITAS, Calif. -- March 12, 2003 -LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), announced certification today for its 2Gb/s Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA), the LSI44929O, with Advanced Digital Information Corporation’s (NASDAQ: ADIC) Scalar® series storage networking tape library systems. The LSI Logic HBA, with its Fusion-MPT™ (Message Passing Technology) architecture, offers industry-leading performance, efficiency, and versatility, enterprise-class feature support and proven interoperability (http://interop.lsilogic.com).

"ADIC is pleased to be working actively with LSI Logic to expand the range of proven, interoperable solutions available to the IT community” said Bryce Hein, ADIC executive director, Storage Networking Business Line. “The combination of the LSI44929O and Scalar storage networking libraries assures customers of a proven solution that delivers the kind of reliability and performance needed to keep up with the continual increase in data volume at all levels of the enterprise."

ADIC’s Scalar series storage networking libraries increase the performance, reliability, and manageability of Storage Area Network (SAN) backup by including integrated SAN connectivity, data path conditioning and performance optimization.

The LSI44929O and other LSI Logic 64-Bit Fibre Channel HBAs with Fusion-MPT architecture are ideal for high-performance SAN applications such as tape backup and for data-intensive applications such as data warehousing, digital media and data mining. Both the single channel LSI40919O and the dual channel operate at speeds up to 2Gb/s and are fully backward compatible. LSI Logic Fibre Channel HBAs offer high bandwidth, CPU offload, and low I/O latency for maximizing SAN performance.

"Certifying our performance-rich family of Fibre Channel storage adapters with ADIC’s family of Scalar storage networking libraries gives customers powerful new options," said Charlie Kraus, director of marketing and product management for LSI Logic's HBA Division. "The LSI449290 works with the Scalar series’ integrated storage networking capabilities to give unprecedented data transfer rates and robust overall system operation."

ADIC's Scalar storage networking libraries are the first in the industry specifically designed to increase the speed and reliability of data transfer in a SAN. They feature integrated Fibre Channel connectivity for direct fabric connection, proactive checks of the entire data path—from each HBA to individual tape drives—allowing users to identify and correct system faults before the backup begins, and performance optimization to improve tape drives' streaming performance. Scalar libraries range in capacity from 24 to more than 15,000 tape cartridges and from 2 to several hundred drives.

LSI Logic Storage Components Group supplies a full spectrum of ASICs, ICs, storage and RAID adapters and bus expanders worldwide through distribution channel partners such as Arrow Electronics, Avnet, Bell Microproducts, Ingram-Micro, Insight Electronics, Synnex and Tech Data.
