NEOSCALE CRYPTOSTOR EARNS FIVE-STAR REVIEW FROM SECURE COMPUTING MAGAZINE

Network Storage and Backup Security Appliances Receive Top Designations for Features, Performance, Value and Deployment

MILPITAS, Calif. (May 20, 2003) -- NeoScale Systems, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise storage security solutions for the networked storage and data storage management markets, today announced that its CryptoStor FC and CryptoStor for Tape appliances earned SC Magazine's Five-Star performance rating; the highest rating presented to products reviewed in the magazine. The review, which appears in SC Magazine's May issue and online, recognizes NeoScale's storage security appliances for their ease of use, performance, transparency, security and deployment capabilities for both primary and secondary data storage protection.

According to the review, written by Jayne Parkhouse, "Theft of critical data, once it has passed through a CryptoStor box is futile - it will not be readable outside the data path, nor will it be salvageable without the appropriate set-up and authority." She adds, "setting up the box, whichever version you are connecting, is relatively straightforward… this makes it capable of readily protecting any application data, with centralized and secure policy, and key management." The verdict: "Depending on where you need to guard your critical information (network or backup), both products offer good value and are readily deployable."

CryptoStor FC delivers unparalleled performance, transparency and deployment flexibility to secure data access and privacy for enterprise storage systems. CryptoStor for Tape delivers seamless backup compatibility, integrity and secure recovery to authenticate, encrypt and compress data on tape libraries and virtual tape systems.

"For data protection to extend to distributed storage infrastructures it must be scalable, non-disruptive, suitable to task. NeoScale CryptoStor Family addresses the unique requirements for both networked and backup storage to enable strong privacy policies, greater storage economies, and reduce serious access liabilitie," said John McGraw, CEO of NeoScale Systems. "We're pleased by SC Magazine's security-centric and thorough review of our CryptoStor solutions."

About CryptoStor
CryptoStor FC employs a unique in-line hardware platform that: (1) is optimized for gigabit throughput with <100 microsecond port-to-port latency, (2) can manage hundreds of security policies without performance degradation, and (3) is completely invisible to the existing data path. The platform- and application-independent appliance can be flexibly deployed according to business requirements: at the host, within the fibre channel fabric, in front of storage subsystems, and behind storage gateways.

CryptoStor for Tape is a readily deployable tape media protection appliance that:
(1) transparently supports widely used backup applications and processes, (2) integrates
compression for maximum utilization of media bandwidth, and (3) enables secure media recovery and integrity regardless of tape location or maturity. Multiple backup privacy policies are centrally/remotely managed to shield pooled, distributed, unattended, virtualized and vaulted tape applications. The appliance can be placed in-front of fibre channel or SCSI tape configurations.

NeoScale CryptoStor has undergone extensive performance, interoperability, and reliability testing with leading storage software applications and hardware devices. Both products available through a select storage and security system integration channels. The full review can be found at http://www.scmagazine.com/scmagazine/2003_05/review_1/index.html.
